Acupuncture treatment
Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote its
own natural healing processes and improve functions. This is
done by inserting very thin needles into specific points located
near or on the surface of the skin which have the ability to
alter various biochemical and physiological conditions in order
to treat a wide variety of illnesses. Inserting needles at these
points stimulates various sensory receptors that, in turn,
stimulate nerves (neurological) that transmit impulses to the
hypothalamic-pituitary system (hormonal) at the base of the
brain.
We use only sterile, disposable needles of finest quality to
ensure our patients' satisfaction and eliminate infection.
Does
it hurt?
The most common question being asked about acupuncture is
"Does it hurt?"
Acupuncture does not hurt, it is nearly painless, and even
goes in unnoticed by some.
How
does it work?
Acupuncturists uses specially made acupuncture needles that
are different than typical needles. These fine needles are
specialized to penetrate with as little force as possible. There
are a few different precise methods by which Acupuncturists
insert needles. Points can be needled anywhere in the range of
15 degrees to 90 degrees relative to the skin surface, depending
on the treatment called for. In most cases, a sensation, felt by
the patient, is desired. This sensation, which is not pain, is
called deqi (pronounced dah-chee). Patient feels pressure or
heaviness in the insertion site when deqi is achieved.
There are many diseases that can be treated successfully by
acupuncture. The most common ailments currently being treated
are: lower back pain, cervical spondylosis, condylitis,
arthritic conditions, headaches of all kinds (including
migraine), allergic reactions, and relief of muscles spasms.
How many treatments does it take?
The course of treatments depends on how acute or chronic the
ailment, how long you have had the condition, your lifestyle, and
how strongly you react to acupuncture making acupuncture
extremely individualized.
If you remind the body what balanced is, it will strive to be
that continuously. Each treatment is like an adjustment of
your balance and functions. As you continue in your
treatments, that balance will begin to hold for longer amounts
of time. This means that your body is getting stronger and
healthier, functioning properly and healing itself. |
